A loan is not charity.
It's dignity.
Maisara provides interest-free, long-term micro-loans to local Muslims — the capital, mentorship, and community to build a business that lasts. Until a time of ease.
A sewing machine became a tailoring business.
"I saw written upon the gate of Paradise: charity is rewarded tenfold, and a loan eighteenfold. I asked, why is a loan greater than charity? It was said: because the beggar asks while he already has — but the one who seeks a loan does so only out of true need."
A loan reaches the person who would never hold out their hand. It preserves the dignity of the one in need — and earns the lender a greater reward than a gift. This is the heart of qard hasan, and the heart of Maisara.
Give a family a fish, and they eat for a day. Lend them the net, and they feed the whole community.
Zakat and sadaqah meet today's need. Maisara is built for tomorrow's independence — a sewing machine for a widow, a car for a driver, a 3D printer, a food truck, a first month of inventory. The seed of a business that outlives the loan.
Interest-free, always
Strictly qard hasan — no riba, no hidden fees, no collateral pressure. You repay only what you borrowed, on a timeline built for ease.
A case manager beside you
Every applicant is paired with a real person who helps shape the plan, troubleshoot, and connect you to the help you need.
The fund renews itself
As loans are repaid, the money is lent again — to the next widow, the next driver, the next dream. Your support compounds.
How a $2,400 loan rebuilt a household.
Aisha,* a widow with three children, had sewn clothes for her family for twenty years. Her skill was real. Her income was not.
An industrial machine and starter fabric cost $2,400 — impossible on a part-time wage, and no bank would lend without collateral or charging interest she could not pay.
How do you fund a willing, capable person who simply has no capital — without trapping her in debt or treating her as a charity case?
An interest-free Maisara loan, a case manager, and a short business course. Within a year she repaid in full, hired two women, and the fund moved on to the next family.

0% interest, by principle
Riba is prohibited, full stop. You repay the exact amount lent — nothing more. This is not a marketing rate; it is a religious commitment.
Patient terms
Repayment is structured around your cash flow, not ours. If hardship strikes, we extend — "until a time of ease" is literally our name.
Education bundled in
Every loan comes with access to our workshops: budgeting, pricing, business plans, and basic accounting. Capital plus capability.
Eligibility, in plain terms.
You may be a fit if…
You're a local Muslim with a viable business idea or existing micro-business; you face a genuine capital barrier; you're willing to work with a case manager and complete a short business orientation; and you intend to repay so others can benefit after you.
Examples we fund
A sewing machine for a tailoring service. A reliable car to drive rideshare. A 3D printer for a maker. Equipment for a food truck. First inventory for a home bakery or online shop. Tools for a trade.
"Why a loan? Why not just give zakat?"
Because dignity is the point. Zakat is essential and we help connect people to it — but a gift can quietly say "you cannot." A loan says "you can, and we believe in you." The Prophet ﷺ taught that a loan is rewarded more than charity precisely because it reaches the person who would never beg. It restores agency, builds skill, and — because it's repaid — keeps serving the next family long after you've moved on.
Ready when you are.

By submitting, you agree to be contacted by a Maisara case manager. We never share your details publicly.
Jazākum Allāhu khayran.
Your application has reached us. A case manager will review it personally and reach out within a few days. May Allah make it a time of ease.
Back a real person. Watch a business begin.
Browse vetted, anonymized cases and fund the ones that move you. 100% of your contribution goes to the loan fund — and as it's repaid, it's lent again. Your generosity never stops working.
One gift, given again and again.
Unlike a one-time donation, a Maisara contribution is recycled. Fund a $2,400 sewing business today; next year that same money helps a driver; the year after, a baker. Sadaqah jāriyah — ongoing charity — by design.

For women's shelters & domestic-abuse services
A warm referral pipeline for economic empowerment. Survivors rebuilding independence get capital, mentorship, and a path to their own income — coordinated gently with your case workers.
For fellow nonprofits
Stop re-vetting the same families. Refer applicants, share secure case notes, and screen clients for zakat eligibility through one central, trusted system.
A central source for zakat-eligibility screening.
Verified partner organizations can access our screening portal to filter and refer cases against the recognized categories of zakat — reducing duplication, protecting donors' trust, and getting help to the right people faster.
Let's serve the same people, better.
If your masjid, shelter, or organization wants to refer cases or join the screening network, reach out and we'll set you up.
Founded on a verse about mercy in debt.
Maisara takes its name and its mission from a single command of the Qur'an: when someone owes and cannot pay, give them time — until a time of ease. We turned that mercy into a model.
Our story
Maisara began with a simple frustration: our community gives generously in zakat and sadaqah, yet capable people stayed stuck — skilled but uncapitalized, willing but unbanked. Conventional loans charged riba; charity alone couldn't build independence. So we built a qard hasan fund: interest-free loans, real mentorship, and a community that funds dreams directly. Every repayment becomes the next family's beginning.
How we're built
Maisara operates as a faith-driven nonprofit (501(c)(3) status in progress). 100% of contributions to the loan fund go to borrowers; operations are funded separately and reported transparently in our annual report. We partner rather than duplicate — working alongside mosques, shelters, and other nonprofits across the region.
Three principles, from the tradition.
Qard Hasan
The "beautiful loan" — lent for the sake of Allah, returned without interest. Generosity that preserves dignity.
Sadaqah Jāriyah
Ongoing charity. Because our fund recycles, one gift keeps giving across families and years.
Karāmah
Human dignity. We serve people as capable builders of their own futures — never as cases to be pitied.
